Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan inaugurated the state-of-the-art Bike Station set up jointly by the GHMC, APIIC, HMR and Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) at Gachibowli and flagged-off a bicycling rally on Sunday.In his address, Mr. Narasimhan described as encouraging the concept of ‘Cycle to Work’ as a laudable initiative and wanted Cyberabad to become Cycle City. “My dream is to see that this 60 km stretch will not have any pollution causing vehicles and for those who can’t ride bicycles, solar powered vehicles should be made available to commute here,” he said. GHMC Commissioner Krishna Babu requested IT companies here to encourage their employees to commute by bicycles by providing incentives to them. HBC’s Gachibowli Bike Station opposite Bio Diversity Complex has been built by the GHMC, while Hyderabad Metro Rail contributed 300 bicycles to be positioned here. The Bike Station is fully enclosed and has rest rooms for men and women and provision for snacks and beverages. Minister for Major Industries Geeta Reddy, Minister for Municipal Administration Maheedhar Reddy, Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain, European Cycling Federation president Manfred Neun, HMR MD N.V.S. Reddy and HBC chairman D.V. Manohar were present.
